Planning the Ultimate Trip to Nashville
Nashville has quickly become one of America’s biggest tourist destinations. People love it because it maintains a small town vibe even though it’s a big city. If you are joining the hundreds of others flocking to the area to enjoy the music and culture, we’ve got great suggestions on where to stay, what to do, and where to eat.
Where to Stay in Nashville
Patsy Cline’s Sweet Dreams Suite
Back in 1962, Patsy Cline decided she “made it.” To celebrate her success in the music industry, she purchased her “Dream Home.” The room she was most fond of was the downstairs music room where she entertained some of the biggest names in music like Loretta Lynn, Brenda Lee, and Johnny Cash. Today, when you come and visit Nashville, you can rent out the entire apartment and sleep in this famous music room.
Union Station Hotel
You can step back in time with a stay at the Union Station Hotel. It was built in 1900 and still maintains a lot of the original architecture. Back in the day, Union Station was Nashville’s busiest railroad station. Now the building’s Gothic style exterior blends well with modern and cutting-edge interior design. Guests will enjoy the on-site restaurant, live music in the lobby, and access to an art gallery. With a convenient location downtown, it’s a great place to stay.
Noelle Nashville
Another gem is Noelle Nashville. It was built in 1930 when Nashville was experiencing another boom in tourism. Now in its “second act,” Noelle has been beautifully restored as a hotel and creative gathering. Besides the luxurious rooms and first-class service, guests have access to a bar and restaurant. The barista and shopping are focused on locally owned and operated items, so guests are getting the true Nashville experience.
What to Do in Nashville
Ryman Auditorium
The Ryman Auditorium was built in 1885 by a wealthy Nashvillian named Thomas Ryman. The original intentions for the building were as a tabernacle and opened to the community in 1892. Harry Houdini, Charlie Chaplin, and other significant names made appearances on its stage. But it’s most remembered as being the home of the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974. Today, you can visit the Ryman and take in concerts from some of today’s most famous musicians. Backstage tours are available as well, which we highly recommend!
Country Music Hall of Fame
The Country Music Hall of Fame was built to preserve and honor both past and present country music traditions. The museum does this by telling stories through dynamic galleries and exhibitions. A rotation of exhibits move through the museum, but they are currently featuring special exhibits on The Judds, Little Big Town, Emmylou Harris and more. If that’s not enough for you, regular performances and showcases take place on-site. You can visit the Hall’s website for more information about their exhibits and plan your trip. Just a fair warning, you might want to block off a whole day!
The Grand Ole Opry
The Grand Ole Opry started in 1925. It was an immediate success and launched the careers of some of the most legendary names in music. Throughout its history, The Opry relocated time and again to accommodate the growing crowd. With a stint at the Ryman, it eventually moved to its current location in 1974. Today visitors can choose from three different tours or take in one of the many shows. As an institution in the music industry, a trip to The Opry is a must during any Nashville Trip.
Where to Eat in Nashville
Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack
Nashville is well known for two things: music and hot chicken. You can’t make a pit stop to this great city without stopping by Prince’s. It’s one of the most original establishments where you can enjoy delicious food. Due to its popularity and dedication to quality, you might have to be patient until you can enjoy some spicy chicken. Take our word though when we say it’s worth it!
The Loveless Cafe
Located just off Highway 100, the Loveless Cafe opened in 1951 serving amazing Southern dishes. It was eventually expanded into a 14-room motel after their plates became so popular. While you can no longer book a room, you can still enjoy some of the best cooking Nashville has to offer. If you can make it there for brunch, we highly recommend their buttermilk biscuits! You won’t be disappointed.
Pinewood Social
One of the newest locations on this entire Nashville list, Pinewood Social is highly recommended for its entertainment diversity. First, let us point out their menu is eclectic featuring a range of plates that will satisfy just about every palette. Second, you have more to do than just eat. Their bar is pretty amazing, mixing you up with a range of cocktails. But, maybe the most fun is in their vintage bowling alley. Celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Taylor Swift are known to book a lane when they are in town.
