Elvis Presley: Memphis Celebrates a Musical Icon
Elvis Presley, one of America’s greatest rock-and-roll stars, became a music legend before reaching the ripe age of 25. By the age of 30, Presley had become one of the highest-paid performers in music history. The husky baritone awed and inspired audiences with hits like “Blue Christmas,” “Hound Dog” and “Heartbreak Hotel.” After his untimely death at the age of 42, the music and legacy of Elvis Presley lives on and is greatly celebrated throughout the nation.
In January, Presley’s birthday month, various venues across Memphis participate in celebration! The streets succumb to Presley fever to commemorate the birth of a musical icon and dance down memory lane.
