50th Anniversary of Elvis' Homecoming Package
2006
marks the 50th anniversary of Elvis' homecoming
to Tupelo, Mississippi to perform for the first
time as a star. The Tupelo Convention and Visitors
Bureau is proud to partner with the Elvis Presley
Festival and Elvis Presley Enterprises to celebrate
this momentous occasion with a re-creation of
the homecoming parade and Elvis' historic performance
in Tupelo 50 years ago. The event will take place
in conjunction with the Elvis Presley Festival
June 2-4, with reenactment activities on June
3.
Held
on the site of the original Tupelo fairgrounds,
the event will feature a multi -media presentation
with LIVE PERFORMERS, video footage, audio clips
from the 1956 performance, oral histories from
those who experienced the event first-hand and
the debut of the documentary film "Homecoming:
Tupelo Welcomes Elvis Home" by Tupelo historians
Roy Turner and Jim Palmer.
The
weekend will also include the Elvis Movie Poster
Exhibit at the GumTree Museum of Art, a variety
of music performances by big name entertainers,
fair rides & fun festival events and a Sunday
afternoon Gospel concert.
