Detailed
Itinerary:
A Sweet Magnolia tour guide will
meet your group in the lobby of their hotel to
embark on a day of fun and adventure that will
begin with our Memphis City Highlight Tour. This
tour combines Memphis’ most historic sites
with what’s new in the Bluff City. Drive-by
sites include the Mississippi Riverfront, Mud
Island, the Pyramid, Cotton Row, the South Main
Historic District, Harbor Town, Beale Street,
National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel,
Sun Studio, and Victorian Village. Two special
stops will be made on this tour, first at the
Danny Thomas Pavilion at St Jude’s Children’s
Hospital, then at the Peabody, the South’s
Grand Hotel, to view the “March of the Peabody
Ducks.
The next stop on your Memphis
Highlight Tour will be on “World Famous
Beale St.” for a fun and unique visit to
A. Schwab’s 126 year old variety store.
If you are in the market for a top hat, a love
potion or just some great souvenirs at reasonable
prices, then
Schwab’s is for you! Following your visit
to Schwab’s your will continue down Beale
St. to Alfred’s restaurant for a fine southern
lunch.
The remainder of the afternoon
will be devoted to the highlight of your trip
to Memphis, the Wonders International Cultural
Series exhibition, “Masters of Florence;
Glory and Genius at the Court of the Medici.”
The exhibition tells the story of the passion
and creativity of the greatest artists in the
world, including works by Michelangelo, Leonardo
da Vinci, Raphael, and Botticelli. It is the saga
of the rise and fall of Medici, the wealthiest
family of their time, although great patrons and
collectors of priceless art, their family was
surrounded my mystery and intrigue. This is by
far the most important and the most interesting
exhibition in the Wonders International Cultural
Series to date.
